THE INITIATIVE

First is cursed with always having to be first.  After a lifetime of seconds, thirds and fourths, he's simply despondent.  So he takes matters into his own hands.

This film was an adaptation of a short story I wrote in the Creative Writing program at New York University.  I liked the idea of First being plagued with his own brand of self-imposed pressure to be first, just because of his name. It was always meant to be a quirky, dark comedy.  The film was shot on location in London, UK.  The film has screened at the Iron Mule Festival in New York, the World of Comedy Festival in Toronto, the Short Film Center in Goa, India and will next be screened at the Hampshire Film Festival in the UK.

EAT MEAT

Imagine a world where starvation is an antiquated word of the past. Imagine a green utopia, conjured up by a citizen, who saw her loved ones fall victim to endemic diseases like avian flu and mad cow disease. Her solution is to ban all meat and have the whole population eat SUPRA, a genetically modified plant with all the disease-free nutrients one needs.  Welcome to Greentopia.  But behind the propaganda campaign is an empire with a secret – SUPRA’s deadly side effect.

This science fiction film stars Denise Crosby as the dictator, who appeared as Lieutenant Trisha Yar on Star Trek: Next Generation and has produced the films Trekkies and Trekkies 2.  All the other leads were from Los Angeles and students of the world-renowned acting coach Larry Moss.  This film was shot in MC Studios and on location in New York and was a grueling two-week shoot from set build to finish.  The film in currently in its final stages of post production and will be entered into the festival circuit soon.

LOVE.

The one thing that drives this world and binds us all together is our obsession with love: falling in love, hearing about love, witnessing love.  It's love, love, love … everywhere.  With our documentary love., I wanted a smack-you-in-the-face, sickeningly adorable love story, plain and simple.  It's entertaining, and you feel guilty for enjoying such a vomitatiously cute story between two people, who finish each other's sentences, perform in amateur theatre, and lead a life in sync.  I didn't care that they were gay or that there was a twenty-year age gap. I just wanted to make an interesting film, simply about two people telling us how they fell in love.

This 16mm, color short was shot in several locations in and around Leicester, UK.  It is currently being entered in the film festival circuit.

TIT 4 TAT

This surreal film was inspired by Valentin de Boulogne’s painting ‘The Four Ages of Man’ at the National Gallery in London.  I sought to portray how the abuse towards women can be passed on from generation to generation, in this rather dire portrait of a woman trying to take a stand against her aggressors.

This 16mm, color film was shot in London in conjunction with the National Gallery and was also screened there.

TUESDAY

The start of Ben’s week has been a bust.  He thought he was getting somewhere with a stunning beauty, only to find that she had another stunner by her side.  Wherever he goes, he seems to be surrounded by couples in love.  Will Ben ever find love or will he simply crack?

This 16mm black and white film was originally shot as a silent short.  I like the contrast between the antiquated look of the film and a more modern storyline.
